The written content in the print magazine is specifically commissioned for each edition, on a paid-for basis.
As we develop the magazine, we intend to invest in writers and photographers, commissioning new writing, photo essays, reports and investigative journalism.
Right now, we’re looking for an interviewer for regular feature-length contributions. We’d also like to add book reviewers and restaurant/store reviewers to our team.
If you’d like to contribute, send an email to email@example.com
Please contact the editor if you have a story or feature idea to pitch. But please don’t send us unsolicited articles to read. If we like your pitch, we’ll be in touch.
Our payment terms for commissioned content is 28 days after the date of publication. We don’t pay in advance. We are working towards a rate of £200 per thousand words, but are not paying that for the first few issues.
We don’t pay premium rates for well-known writers; it’s our intention to pay all writers, whether established or just starting out, a similar rate. We think that as a small magazine it’s only fair to our many contributors that we pay them all a similar amount.
Photograpers & Photo Essays
We’d like to develop a photo essay strand in the print magazine, whether story or reportage. Please pitch us your ideas and send a couple of sample images. As well as new commissions, we are happy to consider existing work and to republish previously published work in a new format.
At present, we don’t have a rate for photographers so we’ll work this out by negotiation. We’ll use the current rate for written content as a guide.
We expect to pay reasonable expenses for commssioned work, or to arrange travel, food and accommodation where required. We won’t pay any expenses unless they are agreed in advance and we won’t pay any expenses for unsolicited content (what that means is that if you pitch us something that you’ve already written, we’ll pay our going rate for the text but not pay any expenses incurred in research or writing).
Generally, we don’t pay for online content. You’re welcome to pitch guest blogs or feature articles and we will consider reproducing articles that have appeared elsewhere.
PRs and Publicity
We welcome input from PRs and publicity people, but we’ll take our own line and remain independent. We’re open to feature ideas, and particularly interview suggestions, especially with a new book, event or opening.
We won’t write or print any advertorial. We are interested in competitions and offers for our readers.
Please don’t pitch us something that really doesn’t fit Locavore, no matter how hard you try to make it work! Local, seasonal, sustainable and slow is a tight, specific remit.
