Holkham Hall Slow Food Market and Sagra Feast
April 8, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
The first Slow Food Anglia Festival and “Sagra” event will be held at Holkham on Saturday 8th April bringing together local producers and street food traders for a day of delicious food, informative talks and cookery demonstrations – championing the very best of East Anglia’s fantastic regional produce.
Holkham’s new events space, The Lady Elizabeth Wing, will play host to a food market. From 10am–5pm there will be up to 26 local producers and street food traders showcasing their artisan produce. This will be followed by an evening Sagra feast for up to 200 guests, with a specially prepared menu by new catering company Bite the Bullitt, specialists in primal and traditional cookery methods on charcoal and wood. The communal feast is a wonderful opportunity to get together with friends and family and sample the very best of East Anglia’s delicious food.
As part of the larger international Slow Food Movement Slow Food Anglia supports the enjoyment and protection of locally produced foods, regional cooking and the local environment in East Anglia, as well as promoting excellent local artisan food producers across the region.
A Sagra is an Italian festival normally dedicated to a specific local food – the evening Sagra at Holkham aims to promote and support less well known producers, meats, cheeses, bread, vegetables and other excellent produce of the region. This year the delicious menu will showcase rare native oysters from Colchester alongside other regional ingredients including Red Poll beef from Camcattle in Norfolk, and Baron Bigod raw milk cheese from Fen Farm.
Slow Food is a global movement with over three hundred thousand individual members and two million supporters in over 160 countries across the globe. It is a way of eating and living which brings together people who have a passion about good healthy food and who also have a strong commitment to local communities and the environment, following the Slow Food ethos of Good, Clean and Fair food for all.
Entrance to the day event is free. A £3 charge for car parking at Holkham applies.
