Forage for your own food on a corporate away day with Root Camp

Root camp now offers corporate away days and team-building packages, where you can cook delicious seasonal meals with your colleagues, and work together on the land in a beautiful rural environment.

The one-, two- or three-day tailored Root Camps will have you venturing into the field with local growers (think beekeeping, foraging, fishing, carving in the woods), preparing tasty dishes (from all over the world) in the barn-based teaching kitchen, and eating together from shared plates.

Root Camp UK is a charity running ‘field to table’ cookery schools where participants learn cookery skills as well as how ingredients are grown, caught and cultivated.

As well as foraging for mushrooms, berries, herbs, salads and nuts, according to the location and the time of year, you’ll also be working with professional chefs to be turning these ingredients into delicious meals.

Other activities may include assisting in milking cows and making butter, with additional ‘bespoke’ activities such as foraged cocktail classes, chocolate-tasting and jam making also available as additional options.

Rates for a day-long Root Camp start at £2,800 for up to 20 people, including all the food but excluding transport (Root Camp can also arrange group travel if required and/or overnight tented accommodation). Hosting a corporate away day with Root Camp donates directly into the charity’s bursary fund, which in turn helps fund the attendance of an underprivileged young person at one of Root Camp’s week-long residential camps.

Root Camp CEO Cassia Kidron said: “Root Camp is an excellent team-building experience. Cooking requires communicating and collaborating with your team mates in the kitchen, strategically dividing tasks and learning new skills – all of which are skills transferable to a business setting. The day also offers the chance for them to sit around a table together and bond over the delicious food they’ll have made together.”

Courses are generally held at a beautiful farm in Suffolk, just one hour from Liverpool Station, although Root Camp can also offer locations around the UK on request. Courses can be modified to cater for dietary needs, or menus developed to teach specific types of cookery.
