  • Pego Ferreiro

An off-grid smallholding in the Parque Natural de Serra de Sao Mamede, Portugal. There are three types of accommodation from a River Lodge for two, an old goat milking parlour sleeping up to four, and the Boar Hide – a wooden hut in the woods next to the river where the wild boar congregate during the summer. We are remote and a bit on the wild side. Access is by foot for a minimum of 300mts over ancient stone paths. A reasonable level of fitness is required. We offer peace and privacy. As well as the mill there are several other buildings on the land including another mill with two dwellings (still ruins) and an old goat milking parlour half way up a hill. We have also added two other dwellings for you to take a breather from the hectic world out there. We have kept the place completely off grid. No mains power, no mains water and we deal with our own waste. We work organically and with a respect of the land, landscape and its history. We bought the place in 2005 just before that big dark cloud fell over Europe. To help punch a hole of hope into this mess we have three slightly different types of accommodation for you to regain a sense of balance (you’ll need it on the paths). We have tarted-up the Goat House, built a glampy kind of lodge overlooking the river and a wooden hide for wild boar watching. Each venue Read more [...]

In sight of Urbino (Unesco heritage in northern Le Marche – Italy) in a big organic farm we offer accommodation in 3 self-catering apartments (2 to 5 people). Always keeping in mind the philosophy that ‘one should tread lightly on the earth’ we grow organically wheat, fruits and vegetables and raise our cattle, pigs and poultry with 100 per cent natural feed; from our fresh organic produce and greens, berries and flowers foraged in our farm we make our own bread and pasta, jams, wine, preserves and traditional home cooking. In Autumn we also have truffles from our woods. The home is fitted with solar collectors and the heating system is run using renewable energy. Perfect for touring many Central Italy Renaissance and Medieval towns, horse riding or simply relax by the swimming pool enjoying the sweeping view of the landscape. Good English spoken.
