Put simply, I love baking, I love good food and I love to cook for my family and friends – I come from a big farming family of passionate home cooks. When I was younger I was told by a very wise person: “If you want to show somebody that you really love them, cook them a good meal”. I have always lived by this mantra. One Mile Bakery Hale is all about the joy of delivering delicious homemade, handmade food from my kitchen within my mile and teaching inspirational baking classes so you can bake amazing bread at home to share with the people you love.

  • BreadBread Bakery

    Email:

BreadBread Bakery specialises in sourdough bread products using locally sourced organic flour. Our doughs are produced in a slow, natural way and fermented over 24 hours. This renders the finished breads more tasty, more digestible and longer lasting. The breads are baked in wood-fired ‘black’ ovens made of bricks. The special refractory clay used to make the bricks is from an ancient quarry in France. Stone-baked breads have a better crust, a more complex flavour and a more interesting personality than many other breads. Using wood fired ovens remains the most traditional and sustainable way to bake. We offer free advice about sourdough as well as paid apprenticeships at the bakery. Professional consultations can also be arranged. Our bread is sold at various retailers and used as an ingredient in many restaurants and cafés in the London area. See our website for details.

  • Old Post Office Bakery

    Email:

London’s oldest organic bakery sells a completely organic range of breads and pastries. Although it sells directly to customers at the bakery, much of its business is through wholesale service to health food shops, small supermarkets, etc. It was one of the first organic bakeries in South London, when it started in a disused Post Office in Lyham Road Clapham in 1982. Over the years they have tried many different millers but have settled for Shipton Mill in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Shipton use mixtures of stoneground Canadian and English flours, to give a very successful bread flour range. All the organic breads are handmade throughout the day. They’re all suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and no chemicals, artificial additives, flour improvers or sugar are used in any of the breads. The Old Post Office Bakery can also be found at London Farmers’ Markets (Oval, Marlebone, Queens Park, Brixton, Herne Hill, Bloomsbury, Broadgate) as well as Abbeville Artisans Market and Venn Street Market.
