  • The Ethicurean

    Email:

The Ethicurean is founded on a sense of place. This is the idea of having a connection with the native land, its history and the community who grow food locally upon it. Our family team seek to discover harmonious pairings between the ingredients that surround the walled garden. At the Ethicurean, we are proud of our food principles. Our fantastically supportive customer base who visit all year round often concur heartily. Purveyors of entirely seasonal, local and ethical British produce, all meats are from free range livestock or wild. Our fish is responsibly sourced. We are also supporters of organic agriculture, fair trade and Rainforest Alliance. We produce natural apple juice from our unsprayed orchards. The Ethicurean strive to look for alternatives to all imported fresh produce and constantly look as close to our home for the best ingredients which are often foraged or shot a stone’s throw from our walls or grown within. Mark Cox is the gardener at Barley Wood. He is a one-man band with an incredible passion for Heritage and Heirloom vegetables. Our menu changes twice daily. Look online for an example menu.

  • BreadBread Bakery

    Email:

BreadBread Bakery specialises in sourdough bread products using locally sourced organic flour. Our doughs are produced in a slow, natural way and fermented over 24 hours. This renders the finished breads more tasty, more digestible and longer lasting. The breads are baked in wood-fired ‘black’ ovens made of bricks. The special refractory clay used to make the bricks is from an ancient quarry in France. Stone-baked breads have a better crust, a more complex flavour and a more interesting personality than many other breads. Using wood fired ovens remains the most traditional and sustainable way to bake. We offer free advice about sourdough as well as paid apprenticeships at the bakery. Professional consultations can also be arranged. Our bread is sold at various retailers and used as an ingredient in many restaurants and cafés in the London area. See our website for details.
