We believe everyone should have access to healthy, affordable food that’s good for people and planet. This means transitioning to a food system and diet with local, seasonal, organic, plant-based foods at its core. In our beautiful recycled kitchen we teach vital food growing, cooking and composting skills. Our program covers everything from basic plant based cookery skills to sugar free baking, preserving, bread making, foraging and making your own non-toxic homemade cosmetics. We deliver fun, inspiring and informative cookery and preserving classes using produce from Growing Communities veg box scheme to community groups such as teen carers, adults in rehab programs, new parents, low income families, young people excluded from school, young people in care, local food growers and anyone else with a desire and need to learn about healthy sustainable food. Amazing local volunteers run our pay-by-donation Community Classes on bi-weekly Sundays where new skills such as lactic fermenting, sour dough bread making, home herbalism, Rastafarian Ital food cookery and much more is taught in a fun, relaxed environment. Our program of Masterclasses are led by holistic chefs, herbalists and nutritionists and feature everything from raw food, live cultures and ferments, homemade cosmetics, vegan baking and much more.

  • Urban Bees Ltd

    Email:

Urban Bees is a company that helps bees in towns and cities by promoting sustainable and responsible urban beekeeping and creating much better forage and habitat. We work with communities, charities and corporates to educate people about the importance of bees and provide corporate ‘bee makeovers’; practical steps for how to transform our urban environments and our thinking to help bees and other pollinators – from planting trees and flowers that offer year-round food, to making and installing homes for wild bees. We also train urban beekeepers and produce urban honey. We have hives at various locations across the capital and advise on forage and bee habitats in other towns and cities. Urban Bees was founded a few years ago by Brian McCallum and Alison Benjamin. They have co-written three books about bees , Keeping Bees and Making Honey, A World without Bees, and Bees in the City,  and wanted to share their passion with other urban dwellers in order to make cities more bee-friendly and more sustainable for humans too.
