London’s oldest organic bakery sells a completely organic range of breads and pastries. Although it sells directly to customers at the bakery, much of its business is through wholesale service to health food shops, small supermarkets, etc. It was one of the first organic bakeries in South London, when it started in a disused Post Office in Lyham Road Clapham in 1982. Over the years they have tried many different millers but have settled for Shipton Mill in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Shipton use mixtures of stoneground Canadian and English flours, to give a very successful bread flour range. All the organic breads are handmade throughout the day. They’re all suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and no chemicals, artificial additives, flour improvers or sugar are used in any of the breads.
The Old Post Office Bakery can also be found at London Farmers’ Markets (Oval, Marlebone, Queens Park, Brixton, Herne Hill, Bloomsbury, Broadgate) as well as Abbeville Artisans Market and Venn Street Market.
